Web Marketing

The web is a powerful tool in terms of communication and is a two way stream of events between the user and the administrator of the site the user visits. To create an effective website one must design it to stimulate interactivity where users control over what information they receive.

Key elements of a good Web Marketing Plan include:

  • Focus on a specific customer need
  • Interaction with the visitor
  • Use of the right keywords in the right places
  • Measurable objectives

Extracted From: http://www.web4marketing.co.uk/web_marketing_plan.htm

that is to say that apart from having a website that looks good and presents all that ones website has to offer, marketing is one of the most important aspects in the life and profitability gauge of ones e-business website. web marketing has come to be understood not only through addition of meta tags, but by use of keywords in the mission box, include links of other relevant sites, and break down core texts into website themes.

Adapted from: http://www.web-marketings.com/

Other methods that may be sought in web marketing include:
-online advertising
-pay per click, where sites will host links of other sites and only be paid per the clicks of users linked to the sites.
-search engine marketing, where one labels ones site and subscribes to major search engines.
-E-mail marketing, which may be used to introduce ones site to internet users checking their mail.

Off-line methods may include more traditional aproach such as:
-Use of banners and posters.
-Use of company cards.

Infozone:

The site created for the sharing of information has been marketed through the use of E-mail messages sent to friends , relatives and acquaintances in all walks of life. The response has been slow and low due to initial marketing when the site was still in the basic form and had little or no information or links. follow up E-mails have been sent to those who have not responded in one form or another, plus an expanded group of E-mail mates has been sent out invitations to the site.
As noted above, links and tags are an essential tags and as a result during the construction of the site lead to the inclusion and creation of such links deemed important and relevant to the sites theme.
Off-line methods used include the production of printed invite cards that have been handed out to the public in a publicity campaign.

Pipes

Pipes as a web designing tool allows the user to accumulate, manipulate and mashup content from any part of the web. Feeds of information from all sources from the web may be combined to form one feed and further filtered, translated and sorted to achieve end user needs. with this tool a user is allowed to create their own layout map of selected and filtered feeds and channel the same information out as an RSS for example, amongst other formats available. Widgets and Badges can therefore be so created.

an example of use would be to "Fetch"URL data and filter it by either exclusion by criteria chosen, and relaying the output to a web print out when the web2.0 application is run.

For the multimedia class workshop, i set out to create a pipe mashup application that would get for me information on web 2.0 from two different sources. I choose the following URLs: http://hutchison.homelinux.net/web2/web-20/ and yahoo.search. These were joined by a union dragged into the palette from the item bar, and to which i added a filter, to filter for item descriptions containing Web2.0. This was linked last but not least to the pipe output tool.

I saved the work and published it on Yahoo Pipes as "Web2.0 pipe" which is now accessible to other users frequenting the site. It may be reached by this link:

Yahoo Pipes is an easy and straightforward Web2.0 application amongst others that can be used to enhance ones own web2.0 site.

Media Master

OverView:
As another great Web2.0 site to not only review but use, Media Master is a music sharing facility designed to enable the user to listen to his or her, or other peoples music where ever they are , in which ever country they may be in, so long as they have a connection to the internet. This runs on obvious condition that you must have uploaded their music to Media Master, otherwise listen in to other Media Master users music.

Media Master has been around now for quite some time (about less than a year or so since i first heard of it through the BBC Tv "click" series when it had just came out), and there are obvious benefits of uploading music to this site and being able to listen back at ones comfort without rummaging through piles of cds and mp3s, or even more.... carrying around a music storage medium, and with recent mobile technological developments, one may browse the same through their own phone or any other mobile WiFi appliance freely without being tied down to a physical internet outlet.

Getting Going:
Registration is basic, as with other similar sites, enabling one to set up pass words and correspondence contacts as well. This is done from the Media Master home web page at http://n90.mediamaster.com. The user may edit their profile at any time and includes for example the capacity of the user to upload a picture or photo of choice to represent the user.
To upload music, one would click the "import Music" tab at the top of the screen. A new window will appear which will allow the user to select where on their computer they are importing music from.

Warning:
the process of uploading music may be slow but sure as it may take a while to upload a collection of music. speeds vary depending on connection and upload speed that you have set the program to run at. experience has taught me as a frequent user that: you will not be able to upload 14 days worth of music in one day!!!! be patient and let your computer run at night while you sleep:)

Unfortunately Media Master doesnt allow or have the download facility, protecting both the industry and also the collectors collections integrity.

Listening in:
as a standard, media Master allows the user to copy widget forming code into ones own website or blog(as seen in this blog) or code that may launch the publishers own radio station of their music that may be listened to while viewing the web site or blog. This is achieved through selections given through the "publish" tab at the top of the users Media Master window.
One can add friends to Media Master by invitation, as well as form music friends with other people who are already using the site and have their own uploaded music lists. A great bonus if you get bored with your selection of music; the ability to browse other users music lists and listen in to samples and radio stations.

Inviting Friends:
this facility allows communication with other users of the site, as well as to have them linked to your collection. One can send out invitations and introduce friends from ones own E mail address book, thereby expanding the selection and options of not only the user but others to experience a new culture of sound uploaded by individual users spanning ther globe.

Conclusion:
A great way of never loosing music through misplacement or damage. Upload and stash away those records and enjoy the freedom of listening in to either your or other users music collections. Check it out and listen in further down this Blog through my "sedimental" link to my music at MediaMaster.com (long hours of uploads).

Join in the fun!
Music is the rythm of life!

AjaxPlay.com:

Overview:

This web site can be reached by typing in the following address: http://ajaxplay.com , which would lead you directly to the main welcome home page. If you are a new user, you will need to click into the registration section before you can start using the web site.

this is a website dedicated to those who love to play chess without the restraints of a set local and meeting point for both parties. There is a basic registration process which takes the user through a couple of registration questions, once complete the user is ready to launch a multitude of games with different persons around the globe. The site is free and runs through user input throughout the game. Opponents remain anonymous if they so wish, and messages can be sent to and from the users of this facility.

The GUI:

On logging in successfully, the site lists all available games which other users have launched enabling the user to just simply click and join the game.

Within a simple game the user has selected is represented by a 2D graphical representation of the game, showing the position of both the users and opponents figures. There is also table of icons both the user and the opponent have lost to each other alongside the main chess board.

The User starts can view his or her rating in comparison to the opponent(s).

multiple games with multiple opponents can be run at the same time , allowing the user to log off and resume one or another game when next logged in, or simply view the status of the game if the other side is to make a move. This allows the user freedom to learn and master the game as well as plan their next move. Once an icon is selected by mouse click, a predetermined map will show the user where and within which box the user may click to place the icon, hence the rules of the game are maintained.

LayOut:

The above is a snip representation of the GUI on AjaxPlay.com for the user, namely, sedimental. at the top right corner the user can view the number of current games he/ she joined/ initiated, with the number of games requiring his/her next move, this iformation is repeated but in greater detail in “your games” window. This window shows the users chess icon colour, any messages sent, who the person is competing against, their rating, country joined from, as well as the time deadline for each game.

Dark Chess, Ongoing game:

The above is a snip representation of an ongoing game. The users icon colour is white, the game type is “Dark Chess” where the user has a limited view of the moves made by the opponent.

Normal Play

The above is a snip of the user playing a normal game where he can view the opponents moves.

The user the site also allows the user the other facilities of the normal game of offering a draw or resigning or admitting defeat during the course of play.

The Site still requires some work on by the authors as some facilities such as tabs for rules of the game are not available. Of equal a concern would be the language barrier in relation to multinational users.

Conclusion:
Through AjaxPlay.com chess fanatics can play games against each other via email and every time the other player makes a move, an email notification will be sent to the other player. If you choose to stay online you will be able to see the moves that your opponent makes live. AjaxPlay.com is absolutely free to use and only takes about a minute to sign up for. The site keeps track and shows your total statistics, win and losses, your ranking as opposed to everyone else using the network, and a rules section to freshen up on the basics for beginners.
